The morning is in Kaleiçi. Hadrian's Gate survives from the Roman period and is the city's oldest entrance; behind it are narrow stone lanes, restored Ottoman houses and courtyard cafés. Two to three kilometres are walked in Kaleiçi.

The lanes drop down to the old harbour. Gulet boats moor here; looking up from the harbour you see the city's cliffs.

The afternoon brings the Düden waterfall. Lower Düden falls straight into the sea and is watched from the cliffs or from a boat; the walk is short.

Then the shore: Konyaaltı is pebble, Lara is sand. You choose which; both are close to the city.

The Antalya Museum is an optional stop — the finds from the region's ancient cities are here. If there is no interest, free time in the bazaar takes its place.

The day runs ten hours, and because the distances are short little of it is spent on the road.

It suits: guests who want to leave the hotel and see the city, those interested in history and old-town fabric, and families who want to show their children a waterfall. Because the distances are short, the day is not tiring.

It can be hard for: Kaleiçi's lanes are cobbled and sloping in places; a pushchair struggles there and it does not suit a wheelchair. In summer there is little shade at midday.

Where you are staying changes the day. From the centre, Lara and the Belek–Side stretch the day takes the same time. If you are in Kemer, and especially Alanya, you set out on the road every day — Alanya is 100 to 130 minutes from the centre. Tell us where you are staying and we build the route around it.

Season: April–May and October–November are the easiest for sightseeing; July and August middays are heavy.
