The route: ferry or road
There are two ways to Bursa from Istanbul: crossing the Marmara by ferry, or driving over the Osmangazi Bridge. The ferry puts part of the journey on the water and is more fun for children; the road is more flexible on timing. Either way, an early start fits one more stop into the day.
Uludag and the cable car
Riding the cable car up Uludag is the most popular part of the trip and takes about half an hour. It is noticeably colder at the top than in the city; even in summer a light jacket helps. In winter people come for the snow, but the cable car can close in bad weather, so keep the plan flexible.
In town: the Ulu Mosque, Koza Han and Cumalikizik
The Ulu Mosque and the adjoining Koza Han show Bursa's silk-trading past together. The Green Tomb is a short drive away. The day closes with breakfast or tea in Cumalikizik, a UNESCO-listed village; its stone lanes are narrow and sloping, so comfortable shoes matter.
