Besiktas and Ortakoy are about 42 km from the airport and on the European side, so no Bosphorus crossing is needed. The last stretch runs along the shore road and the Bosphorus view starts while you are still in the car. That section is narrow and single-lane, so it slows noticeably in the late afternoon.
Some of the shore hotels are reached down narrow side streets off the coast road, with limited waiting space at the door. When the full address is taken at booking, the driver knows the entry point in advance and you do not walk along the shore road with luggage. The area around Ortakoy square can close heavily to traffic at weekends.
A Bosphorus view is the biggest price lever in Istanbul and the main reason to stay here. In return, the historic peninsula is not walking distance: if you will go to Sultanahmet daily, add the travel into the day. Having the car at your disposal all day is the most useful answer in this area.
