The airport's full name is Milas–Bodrum, and the name is not misleading: it sits in the Milas district, outside the Bodrum peninsula. Bodrum centre is about 36 km away and the drive takes around 40 minutes in normal conditions. The road crosses the plain first, then climbs over the hills at the neck of the peninsula and descends into Bodrum. On that descent the castle and the marina appear all at once — that is the moment you know you have arrived.
In central Bodrum, especially around the castle and inside the bazaar, the streets are narrow and some are pedestrian only. Cumhuriyet Caddesi along the waterfront closes to traffic in the evening. A number of small boutique hotels in the centre cannot be reached by car all the way to the door; you are dropped at the nearest point and a short walk remains. With the hotel name in advance the driver knows how far in he can go, and there is no circling with luggage.
Most flights into Bodrum land in the evening, and in summer the airport exit and the peninsula road get busy at the same time. That can turn the 40-minute drive into an hour. Give us your flight number and we track the flight; if it is delayed there is no extra charge for waiting. For late-night arrivals the whole road is lit and comfortable.
