Istanbul Airport lies northwest of the city and Kadikoy on the Asian side, with both the city and the Bosphorus in between. At roughly 60 km this is the longest inner-Istanbul route here, taking one to one and a half hours. If a flight into Sabiha Gokcen is available, reaching Kadikoy from there is half the distance — 35 km and no bridge.
With its market, seaside promenade and the cafés of Moda, Kadikoy is the heart of the Asian side. It is not a tourist district like Sultanahmet or Taksim; that is an advantage for guests who want quiet and everyday life, but for anyone heading to the historic peninsula daily it means crossing the Bosphorus every day.
The ferry from Kadikoy to the European side takes about 20–25 minutes and is the cheapest way to see the Bosphorus. Marmaray and the M4 metro also connect the area to both the airport and the other side. So after the transfer you do not need a car for daily travel.
